Modeling and Technical Skills

I started my journey in undergraduate as an environmental engineering student and then switched over to nanomaterial-based optoelectronic development in graduate school.

I combined my interests in advanced materials and impacts on the environment when I went to go work for the U.S. EPA as a contractor looking at exposure to 3D printer emissions. My interests have since shifted more toward larger ambient air exposure issues as I gained experience in that role and branched out to work with other research groups.

This has given me a wide ranging skillset:

Modeling: Multi-Path Particle Dosimetry Modeling Software 3.04, APEX, AERMOD and associated input programs, RLINE, Cura3D, 3ds max, MODFLOW, Hybrid LUR, CONTAM.

Air Sampling Equipment: Familiar with Federal Reference Methods and Federal Equivalent Methods for NAAQS pollutants, SLAMS monitoring network, Ogawa passive samplers, TSI Nanoscan SMPS 3910, TSI SMPS 3936, TPS100 Nanoparticle Sampler, TSI P-Trak CPC, TSI CPC Model 3785, Markes thermal desorption tubes and DryCal DC-1 Flow Calibrator.

Coding and Repositories: HAWC, HERO, Clowder, R, Python, Git, MATLAB, LabVIEW, Origin Lab, AutoCAD. Beginner proficiency with SAS. PubChem, ECOTOX.

Document Production: LaTeX, RMarkdown.

Data Analysis: Origin Lab, R (ggplot2, dplyr, tidymodels, shiny etc.), Microsoft Office; linear and multiple linear regression, ability to display data through bar charts, line charts, forest plots, funnel plots, etc.

Statistics: Knowledge of parametric (t-tests, ANOVA, Pearson) and non-parametric (Mann-Whitney U, Wilcoxon) tests.

Literature Search and Screening: Web of Science, Pubmed, SWIFT, Distiller, LLR.

Systematic Review Techniques: Familiar with development of systematic reviews from scoping and designing literature searches and screening to development of major conclusions from final literature base; familiar with systematic review guidance and study quality evaluation tools including PRISMA, COSTER, Newcastle-Ottawa, ROBINS-E, and others.

Material Science Analysis Equipment: FEI NNS450 SEM with EDX detector, Tecnai12 TEM, Cary 50 UV/Vis spectrophotometer, Horiba LabRam spectrophotometer, AIST-NT AFM, PANalytical Empyrean Series 2 XRD, AXIS
Supra XPS.

Nanomaterial and Nano-electronic Production Instruments: Tube furnaces (for CVD), atomic layer deposition, thermal evaporators, e-beam evaporators, Karl Suss Mask Aligner, focused ion beam instruments, photoresist spin coat stations, and wire bonders.

Other Lab Equipment: Light microscopy, dark-field microscopy and common lab equipment including ovens, desiccators, pipettes, vortex mixers, and centrifuges.

3D Printing: Lulzbot TAZ Workhorse, Filabot EX2, G-code.

Generative AI: Google LM, Perplexity, Sudowrite, ChatGPT.

Video and Image Editing: Power Director 365, Photoshop, Illustrator, GIMP, DaVinci.

Website Design: WordPress (obviously), some Drupal.
